My New Year’s Resolutions for 2019

“Tomorrow, is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one.”

2019-new-years-resolutions

Okay so who has made resolutions before but completely forgot about them by February? Yup…been there, done that!

It’s definitely a challenge keeping those pesky resolutions when we get busy. But trust me, once you put your mind to it, you’ll accomplish everything you’re hoping for.

Yes I know it all sounds so cheesy and cliche but I’ve always thought they were actually a pretty great idea…that is, when I stick to them.

Now what are my 2019 resolutions?

Eat healthier and work out more

Yes I’m skinny and I may look fit. But trust me…I am far from it! For years, I haven’t really been watching what I eat and other than the occasional long walk, I don’t exercise much. Really bad, I know! So my top resolution for 2019 is to focus more on my physical health. I may not feel motivated to go to the gym all the time but I’d like to at least go once a week. And add some more veggies to my diet…even when I don’t want to eat them!

Move to a new city

So my boyfriend Adrian is going into the Air Force (EEK!) and he will be in tech school out in Texas for 2 years. My resolution? Get out of Colorado for a couple years and move to Austin so I can be closer to him! I know everyone and their mother wants to move there, but I do think Austin was a cool town. I’m really hoping for a new experience and to try out a new city that isn’t in Colorado (FYI I’m a Colorado native).

Grow my blog

This one is kind of obvious considering I am a blogger, but hey…I think it’s still important to include in my resolutions list! I’m hoping to get in with more influencer and affiliate programs, build my blog and social media audiences and just be an all-around blogging badass! It’ll be hard to balance with a full-time job but I’m determined to make 2019 the year my blog explodes!

Travel to at least one new place

I of course have some favorite vacation spots (Arizona being one of them). But one of my resolutions for 2019 is to find a new place to travel to. I’ve got a few places on my list I’m thinking of for next year (San Francisco, Portland, Los Angeles, New York City, to name a few). Now I just gotta save up my money instead of spending it all on shoes and makeup…oops!

Finish reading my unfinished books

I’m not much a reader but I did start two books in 2018 that I haven’t made the time to finish. One that I really want to finish is Crazy Rich Asians. I loved the movie and the book so far is really good. Now just to set my mind to reading a little bit every day. For me, that’ll be hard just because I’m such a Netflix addict but I also want reading to be on my list of resolutions for next year.

Ok you’re probably asking: how the hell am I supposed to keep track of my resolutions? Lucky for you, I found a few cool apps that will help (DISCLAIMER: I’m not an affiliate with any of these apps. They just sounded cool to me):

Coach.me – lets you set any goals you want and you can even share your progress if you so choose

MyFitnessPal – hoping to be more active next year? Keep your fitness goals in check and get in shape with this app

Wunderlist – this is another great app to set your goals in a list format! Great for those organizers out there (like me!)

Mint – if your resolution is to be more financially saavy, this app will help you keep track of your budget (trust me, I’ve used this one and it is pretty great!)

Now I don’t know about you, but my New Year’s Eve plans consist of eating lots of food, drinking and spending time with family. Let me know what your resolutions are for next year down below in the comments OR chat me up and send me an email.

I hope everyone has a fun and safe night tonight! And if you can help it, don’t get too carried away with the champagne.

Christmas Traditions At My House

“You’ll shoot your eye out!”

-Literally every adult in A Christmas Story

christmas-traditions

Let me start off by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas! This is my absolute favorite holiday of the year and I think the biggest reason is all of the great Christmas traditions I grew up with. A lot of them I still do every year, whether I am with my family or not.

Here are some of my favorite Christmas traditions:

  1. Watching A Christmas Story all day on Christmas Eve/Day

Alright so I know a lot of people do this but this is by far my favorite Christmas movie! Sure, I still love the more festive and heartwarming holiday movies, but I grew up watching this one all day on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (thank you, TBS, for your 24-hour marathon). This is my favorite Christmas tradition by far and I never grow tired of this movie. What’s not to love about a leg lamp, pink bunny pajamas and the infamous Red Ryder BB Gun.

  2. The food!

Because food at Christmastime is always amazing! Growing up, I always remember my mom making a seriously addicting skirt steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus on Christmas Eve (my mouth is watering just writing about it). As a kid, I didn’t appreciate it as much, but every year I go back to my parents’ house for Christmas, this meal is one of our Christmas traditions I get most excited about. My mom also makes the best peppermint bark and Christmas cookies ever, which she’ll even send to me if I’m not there for Christmas.

  3. Dressing up on Christmas Day

I know that almost no one dresses up for Christmas Day and most people stay in their pajamas all day, but not my family! Every year, my sister Ashley and I get glammed up before we open presents. My parents also get dressed and ready for the day. As you can tell, we’re not the type of family who dresses down very much. And sure, I love spending the day in pajamas sometimes. But one of our Christmas tradition is to get ready and look nice on Christmas Day, even though we never go anywhere that day. (Go check out my post from last week if you need some last-minute Christmas outfit inspo!)

  4. Drinking lots of beer…like seriously, a lot!

So fun fact about me: I’m a total beer snob, which makes sense considering I’m from Colorado! Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about beer from my dad who used to be a beer judge. Now I know what you’re thinking: what does beer have to do with my Christmas? Well, this is one of my favorite Christmas traditions because it’s bonding time with my dad. And I can never say no to that. Plus there’s a ton of really awesome Christmas beers out there too!

  5. Sleeping in on Christmas Day

That’s right…even as a kid, I didn’t usually get up early on Christmas Day. If I get the chance to sleep in, I will absolutely take it! Ashley and I always sleep in and eat a late breakfast before we get all dressy and open presents. Honestly, I’d much rather sleep in than get up really early on Christmas. That way present time lasts into the afternoon, which is way better in my opinion. And the way I see it, Christmas will still be there even if I wake up late!

My family of course has other Christmas traditions as well, but these are my favorites that I hold onto every year. They’re not necessarily anything crazy (or at least not to me). When I think of Christmas Eve/Day, these are the traditions that make me love this holiday more than all the others.

I would love to hear some of your favorite Christmas traditions, so sound off down in the comments.

Merry Christmas to you all! I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and you get lots of great presents, eggnog and time with loved ones.
